Sad Day for Democracy

From an AP wire story making excuses for the Democrats who caved on the Schiavo case:

"The party didn't want to be on the wrong side of "the culture of life," said one Democratic aide, speaking on condition of anonymity."

A culture that ignores starving families, bombs more than a hundred thousand innocent civilians, tortures people to death, and would cast the fates of our elderly, orphaned, and disabled to the uncertainties of the stock market has no business calling itself a culture of life. Culture of the money-changers is more like it.

It's a sad day indeed when a group of supposed leaders becomes so afraid of a hollow, hypocritical slogan that they are willing to sacrifice the constitutional foundations of our democracy on the altar of cynical political posturing.

Instead of leadership, they tucked their tails between their legs and retreated to crass political calculation, casting their votes with the hypocrites, passing an unconstitutional law for the benefit of none.

Shame on you.
