From the Marine Times:
The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs says soldiers recovering from war injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center are asking for phone cards because the government doesn’t pay for long-distance calls.
The department says many soldiers will be at the hospital through the holidays and phone card donations of any amount can be sent to: Medical Family Assistance Center, Walter Reed Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20307-5001.
Some people think that's not only unsupportive, and horribly unfair, but stupid.
So, a group of people belonging to Democracy for America's Dean Corps decided on a project to buy calling cards to donate to VA hospitals, such as Walter Reed, that care for the most severely wounded. Democracy for America matched those cards minute for minute. DFA-ers donated 100,000 minutes, and Democracy for America donated a matching 100,000 minutes, for a total of 200,000 minutes.
Cards are on their way at this very moment, and will be there in time for calls home on Christmas.
Now that's support.
Thank you Dean Corps and DFA!
